Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemistry with a Focus on Analytical Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry in the Life Sciences conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. The department is located at BMC in Uppsala, facilitating collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine, and SciLifeLab, and providing access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. Read more about the research at the Department of Chemistry in the Life Sciences on our website (https://www.uu.se/institution/kemi-for-livsvetenskaperna/forskning).
Project Description
The position focuses on modern and innovative mass spectrometry, imaging mass spectrometry, and analysis of single cells to elucidate the chemical mechanisms of life in projects with medical relevance, including type 2 diabetes. The postdoctoral researcher will work within Lanekoff's group (https://www.uu.se/institution/kemi-for-livsvetenskaperna/forskning/analytisk-kemi/lanekoffs-grupp) in collaborative research projects both within the group and within the Centre of Excellence for the Chemical Mechanisms of Life here (https://www.uu.se/centrum/livets-kemiska-mekanismer). The successful candidate will have a strong background in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry. In addition to interdisciplinary collaborations, the candidate will have the opportunity to influence the projects being conducted.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will conduct high-quality mass spectrometric research focusing on single cells and imaging analysis of metabolites and lipids. The individual will participate in collaborative projects and drive their own projects using advanced methods and instrumentation. As a postdoctoral researcher, the candidate will collaborate with PhD students, undergraduates, and researchers within the groups and centre in an interdisciplinary environment, as well as write scientific publications and grant applications and be involved in outreach activities.
Qualifications
A PhD in natural sciences or engineering, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to such a PhD, with a focus on analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry is desirable. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference will be given to candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years. In calculating the three-year time frame, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or trust assignments within trade unions, etc. The successful candidate will have experience with mass spectrometry of small molecules in biological samples.
Significant importance will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, motivation, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and skills are assessed to have the capabilities required to develop within the project.
Desirable/meritorious qualifications
Experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry, imaging mass spectrometry, cell handling, sample preparation, data management, statistics, programming, pathway analysis, and scientific writing will be considered strong merits. Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of application.
About the Employment
The employment is temporary for 2 years according to the central collective agreement. The position is full-time. Start date is 2026-02-16 or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
